Prevent HTC Vive from disabling VR due to low performance

I was having issues with some games not loading in VR mode even though SteamVR showed all green. I ended up enabling developer notifications, and saw that I would get a performance warning whenever I opened a game. What I think is happening is that the Vive is shutting off VR as soon as these games run because it detects performance issues. What's really happening is that these games that perform splendidly are using up a bunch of resources in an instant when they first boot up, and I believe the Vive just assumes it will always use that many resources and never looks back.

Is there any way to disable the Vive's tendency to kick players out into Home whenever it detects an "issue" (which can lead to flickering of the Home/games in some cases)?

Edit: Yeah, that's definitely what's happening. When assets are being loaded in at the beginning, there are some spikes in performance, but after they've been loaded in performance smooths out: enter image description here

How do I make my HTC Vive less laggy?

Turn off or restart your HTC Vive While doing this also works for a bunch of gadgets and devices (not just for VR), it's usually done when a certain lag spike or issue takes place. It may sound simple, but try turning off or restarting your HTC Vive headset, it does work most of the time.

How do I make SteamVR run better?

Unplug the link box cables (HDMI and USB) from your computer, as well as its power cable from an electric outlet. Wait for a few seconds, and then plug the cables back in. On your computer, you might see a notification that drivers are being installed. Wait for the installation to finish.

Why is my HTC Vive headset not working?

The problem may not just happen because of the actual headset itself, but also the program or game it runs. Just turn off or restart your SteamVR by clicking the 'x' on the top-right corner of your Steam window. If you do so, the lag issues emerging will have a high chance of dissipating.
