I understand completely what a BUD switch is and what purpose it serves. But what within the game is happening when a BUD switch works? What allows it to work and what is the game thinking?

Best Answer

Most BUD switches work on the fact that you can power a piston with quasi-connectivity. This lets it be powered without the piston noticing. When you change a block next to the piston, it checks to see if it is powered, and notices that it is. It then sends a signal and resets itself.

How does Bud powering work?

BUD switches work by virtue of a bug in Minecraft that affects how blocks recognize what other blocks are placed next to them, and also uses the glitch that pistons are essentially two blocks tall when it comes to power (that is, you can power the block above a piston and it will still work).

What is a bud switch?

The Block Update Detector, or BUD switch, is a redstone mechanism that uses quirks in the game in order to detect changes in nearby blocks.
