What is the point of capturing outposts?

Whenever you clear an outpost of enemies you hear the iDroid say that the base is captured. Beyond just letting me know I can run around and do/take whatever I want, is there any benefit (especially longer-term)?
From what I've noticed, it seems to be temporary anyway as there are always replacements at that outpost next time you deploy.
