What is and causes the "eerie noise" sound effect? [duplicate] - Cheerful young woman screaming into megaphone

While mining i saw "eerie noise" appear in the subtitles (new feature of 1.9 showing game sounds; i keep it on as i like my volume low). I am unable to recreate it, although not much time was put into it, and so i assume it is rare and possible for aesthetics.

What causes it? And does it signal anything?

What causes eerie noise in Minecraft?

Cave ambience (also known as cave sounds, or eerie noises according to the subtitles) are sounds that occasionally play when the player is underground or in a dark area, based on the mood algorithm.

What does the eerie noise mean?

If you describe something as eerie, you mean that it seems strange and frightening, and makes you feel nervous.
