Multiple multiplayer games have the same connection issue

Multiple multiplayer games have the same connection issue - Cute siblings using tablet together at home

In multiple multiplayer games I play (so far Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Team Fortress 2, though I imagine more would have this issue) when connected to a server I seemingly at random lose connection to the server and cannot reconnect to it for a few minutes. I tried pinging and tracing the route of the servers I was on when successfully connected to them and when I was disconnected and there was no difference in the results. Why and how is this happening? Is there a way to fix it?
