How do I back up a Wii U?

Nintendo has officially announced that they are shutting down the Wii U, and the 3DS eStores. I own a fair amount of digital games on my Wii U (they are on an external hard drive).

In the event that the hard drive dies or something and I can't redownload my games, is there any way I could back these digital games up from the hard drive to my computer?

Can you backup the Wii U?

Important. In order to back up save data, you must have at least one USB storage device that has been formatted to work with the Wii U. Your system also needs to have the latest system update applied. With the latest system update, dates were added to all save data.

Insert your SD card into your Wii. Launch the DVD Dump Tool from the Homebrew Channel on Wii. Press the Right button on the d-pad ad then press A. Choose the disc that you want to copy, such as Wii Single-Layer Disc or Wii Dual-Layer Disc, and press A.

Complete these steps

Access the Wii Data Management screen.

Select Save Data. Save Data Icon.

Select Wii to display all Save Data. Wii Icon.

Select the SD Card tab at the top of the screen to view the data stored on the SD Card.

Select the desired data, and then select the Copy option.
