I'm asking because I am writing my own mods and wanted to know if a server owner can parse the mod list during connection to the server and act consequently if some are missing.

Can Minecraft servers detect your mods?

Though servers cannot detect mods directly, they can sometimes detect the effects of them.

Does forge send mod list to server?

ModList. Contains a list of all mods installed on the server or client. Sent from the client to the server first, and then the server responds with its mod list.

Do you have to have mods installed to play on a modded server?

When running a modded server, do not forget that you need to have the mods downloaded on your Minecraft client. This also applies if you are adding additional mods to an already created modpack.

Can a forge server run plugins?

Note: Forge servers by default do not support craftbukkit/spigot plugins. You can add this functionality by installing either Cauldron or MCPC+ on your server. Some modpacks come with either of these mods installed by default requiring no additional setup.
