Based on this answer:
If I remember correctly; The Slim version supports only the PS/X(1995-1999)version memory cards, not the PSOne(2000-2500) version ones. This could be your problem.
- Are there actually different versions of the PS1 Memory Cards?
- What are the difference between them?
- How do you identify the different versions/revisions?
- Are there any forward/backward compatibility problems? (I see that the PS2 Slim BC is one)

Do PS1 memory cards still work?
Much longer than battery on your old GameBoy cartridges in any case. +1, Anecdotally, I have PS1 memory cards with saves that were first put on there almost 20 years ago, and the saves are still valid. Are all PS1 memory cards 1Mb?
The original PS1 memory card held 1Mb, or 128KB of data. Technically you could only store 120KB in the 15 available memory slots (8KB per save slot), but let's stick with the advertised 1Mb of storage. There are 8Mb (megabits) in 1MB (megabyte). There are 1024 MB in 1GB and 1024 GB in 1TB.Are PS1 and PS2 memory cards the same?
Does anyone know? No, PS1 and PS2 memory cards are separate. You can back up PS1 saves to a PS2 memory card, but you'd have to copy it back to the PS1 memory card to use it. You can't actually use the PS2 memory card while playing PS1 games.PlayStation Console Models \u0026 Revisions
