Is the Chosen Undead the same?

The Chosen Undead is a human, and thus, a descendant of the Furtive Pygmy, one of the original Lords who claimed the Dark Soul.

Is the Chosen Undead the Ashen One?

So ever since we've had these talks about the there has always been something bugging me about said being. During the beginning cutscene of the game we are introduced to the Lords of Cinder and how they will awaken and be called upon to link the flame once more.

Is Dark Souls 2 in the same universe as Dark Souls?

Although both are set in the same universe, there is no overt story connection between the first Dark Souls and the sequel. Taking place in the kingdom of Drangleic, the game features both player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) gameplay, in addition to having some co-op components.

Do you play as the same person in Dark Souls?

NOTE: I am totally open to being fact-checked (aka Vaati checked). Also, this may already be a theory but I havent heard it yet. Dark Souls 1: The Chosen Undead follows the path of Gwyn, eventually becoming strong enough to succeed him and link the First Flame.
