Is it possible to copy an app from an ipad back to a Mac/PC in cases where you didn't keep the .ipa file?

I am hoping I can backup games that are on my iPad for which I don't have the .ipa file.
My understanding is that iTunes is a marketplace and so in some cases it may no longer be possible to re-download apps that lose developer support. However, you can still sideload your backup .ipa files with iTunes 12.6.5.3 provided you kept them.
So far I have lost 10 games that I paid for (admittedly most of them 99 cents each): ARC Squadron, Borderlands Legends HD, From Cheese, Lili, The Other Brothers, Pixel Disc Golf, Sid Meier's Pirates! for iPad, Stride & Prejudice, Terra Noctis and ZiGGURAT, and one in-app purchase: `Escape - Norm's World XL, Two-Player Game Modes'.
