How do I use Triple Notch without triggering High Volley

I have two skills from the Hunter tree: Triple Notch and High Volley. The weird thing is that as far as I can tell both are triggered by the same buttons, holding L2 and pressing R1.

Sometimes when I try to add another arrow using Triple Notch I accidentally fire a High Volley. This is quite annoying as I can't really tell right now what the trigger is here for the different behaviour. There must be something beyond the pure button combination I missed that allows me to choose which skill to trigger here.

So how do I trigger these two skills actually, in a way that doesn't cause me to waste arrows by accidentally shooting them into the air?

How do you use triple notch horizon forbidden West?

Horizon Forbidden West Skills: Triple Notch Triple Notch is a weapon technique skill for Hunter Bows. With this skill unlocked, you can fire up to three arrows at once with your Hunter Bow. Press R1 to notch up to three arrows on your bow, and fire at all of them at once for a huge damage boost.

How do you equip triple notch?

Choose as Weapon Technique If you have more than one Weapon Technique for the Hunter Bow, simply set the Weapon Techniqe to Triple Notch. While aiming with L2, tap R1 to load another arrow. Fire with R2 to use the skill.

How do you double notch in forbidden West?

If you have more than one Weapon Technique for the Sharpshot Bow, simply set the Weapon Techniqe to Double Notch. While aiming with L2, tap R1 to load another arrow. Fire wth R2 to use the skill.

What do targeting Hunter arrows do forbidden West?

It uses Targeting Hunter Arrows to direct the attacks of overridden machines and can inflict extra damage against Burning enemies.
