How do conversions with multiple monks selected work?

How do conversions with multiple monks selected work? - Photo of Man Sitting in Front of People

In AoE2: DE, I'm unclear with what happens when I have a group of monks selected and I try to convert an enemy unit. My monks appear to all get exhausted after a conversion attempt.

Do they have a higher chance of conversion with more monks? Or should you always micro and select an individual monk from a group of monks so as to not exhaust them all at once?
