Annoying dog stole the artifact! How do I get it back [duplicate]

So I was about to go to undine but then there was a statue!

I gave the statue an umbrella and it started to play a song and gave me music directions... So I go to the piano in the other room and play the notes it gave me, and a door opens!

But when I go to collect the artifact it says I have "Too many dog" when I drop the dog it takes my artifact!

How do I get it back? Or is it used for a later battle? I also searched Google and Arqade part of SE.

You will not be getting the artifact back. There is no way to retrieve it once it is absorbed.

How do I get the artifact from Annoying Dog?

While trying to grab the artifact (with the Annoying Dog in the inventory), a message appears saying "You're carrying too many dogs." Using/Dropping the Dog summons the Annoying Dog beside the protagonist. The Annoying Dog then runs to the Legendary Artifact and absorbs it, while Dogsong plays.

What happens if the dog absorbs the artifact?

When the Annoying Dog is dropped or used, it appears walking from the leftmost visible point from where it is dropped, absorbs the artifact and walks off through the right wall until it cannot be seen, leaving Dog Residue in the protagonist's inventory.

Is there any way to get the artifact in Undertale?

No, the artifact doesn't exist within the games files. If you somehow manage to edit your inventory to remove the dog, and interact with the artifact, the game simply says *(This will never happen.)

Can you get more Dog Residue Undertale?
